| This is a re-created dug-out canoe made from a large beech tree that was hollowed out by chipping and burning the inside. The dug-out canoe was very important to my people for it allowed them to travel great distances with much ease. Most Lenape villages were formed on rivers and bays. This recreated dug-out was made by two members of our tribe, Quiet Thunder (Richard Gilbert) and his brother Harry by using only traditional methods and is on loan. |
